We’re Gearing Up for Le Mans 2016
Now in its 84th year, the 24 Hours of Le Mans motorsport race is regarded as the most prestigious endurance racing event in the world. Each year hundreds of thousands of spectators descend upon the Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France, to watch the teams and cars battle it out for the top spot. And, you guessed it, we’ll be there this year too.
We’re working in partnership with our friends at Grand Design Systems (GDS) to provide graphics services for three of the cars taking part in the race. GDS have been designing and building quality pit walling for the motorsport industry since the late 1990s and they have garages in motorsport series all over the world. We’re really happy to be working with GDS again, their commitment to excellence really sets them apart from the rest.
This year’s race will be held on the 18th-19th of June and we’ve been over in France getting ready for the action. Nick Kenway heads up the team at 3SixtyWraps, so we caught up with him to find out what he thinks of working at the most eagerly anticipated racing event of the year…
“Having the chance to work at Le Mans is incredible; this will be our fourth year at the event,” Nick explained. “We start off during test week and it’s really quiet, and there’s not that many people around. But the closer you get to the race and the qualifying sessions leading up to the race, the place just starts to get so much busier and the atmosphere is like nothing else. There’s a real buzz about the place.”
This year, Nick and his team will be working on three cars, No.40 from Krohn Racing, No.41 from Greaves Motorsport, and No.44 from Manor. Both the Manor and Greaves cars have been given full wraps and Nick and his team have installed livery on the Greaves car.
So what’s a typical day like for the team at Le Mans? It’s more challenging than you’d think.
“We work very long hours,” said Nick. “You think you’re home and dry one minute and your day’s done, and the next thing you know one of our cars may have a bump in practice and then it’s all hands on deck and you’ve got to work through the night to get the job done.”
For the duration of the event, two members of the 3SixtyWraps team will work alongside the GDS team providing a wide range of graphics services from their on-site graphics studio. It’s a full time job, but the team still have the chance to admire the cars and soak up the atmosphere. “It’s a truly special place,” said Nick. “I think because of how old the race is and the fact that it is so well known as a circuit and there have been so many historic events take place there, taking part in Le Mans is a pleasure.”
