What Is Vehicle Wrapping?
‘Vehicle wrapping’ might not be a phrase you’re intimately familiar with, but it’s definitely something you’ll have seen both on and off the road many times before. Simply put, vehicle wrapping is the process of covering an automobile with large printed vinyl or decal sheets to alter its appearance. These sheets come in a wide variety of shapes and forms, and can include elements like business names, intricate patterns or high visibility graphics.
How does vehicle wrapping work?
Vehicle wrapping is an art form best carried out by professionals. To start, the requested design is carefully drawn out, and measurements of both the wrap and the car itself are then taken.
Next, these designs are plastered onto large sheets, laminated for protection and placed on top of the vehicle. The automobile is given a final once over by the processing team and then – it’s a wrap!
Who is vehicle wrapping for?
Everyone! Vehicle wrapping is used all over the world by people from all walks of life. Business owners send their cars to be wrapped so they can advertise their company wherever they go. And it’s an effective, low-cost form of marketing too – depending on mileage & location, up to 5,000 people per day will see a branded vehicle.
Highway maintenance officials have their vans covered in high visibility graphics so they can be seen clearly by other road users, and sports vehicle owners have their cars wrapped in order to pay tribute to their sponsors.
If you’ve ever attended an event like a festival or sports match, chances are you will have seen wrapping there too, as mobile retail units undergo wrapping to colourfully show off the product they’re selling. For example, a burger stand can be wrapped with vinyls featuring images of food, accompanied by printed text showing the menu and prices.
Many vehicle owners wrap their cars just for fun. And why not?
What else do I need to know about vehicle wrapping?
The wrapping process can often be completed in a day or two, and wraps typically tend to last anywhere between one and five years. Wraps are sometimes called “tattoos for cars”, but unlike getting inked, wraps won’t leave any lasting damage to the “skin” of the vehicle and can be removed just as easily as they can be installed.
Pretty much any automobile or mobile unit can be wrapped, although if you’ve leased a vehicle you’ll need to obtain written permission from the legal owner before the process can get underway. If wrapping stretches across over windows, you’ll still be able to see outside, meaning vision is not distorted or impaired during driving.
